    Position Summary

    St. Bartholomew’s seeks a warm, faithful, and organized Director of Faith Formation and Ministry with Families to provide hands-on, relational, and visionary leadership for children, youth, and their families.

    This leader will collaborate closely with clergy, staff, and lay volunteers to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive spiritual community rooted in lifelong Christian formation. This role blends pastoral presence, program leadership, volunteer development, and curriculum oversight.

    This is not solely a coordination role — it requires an active, visible presence with children and youth on Sundays and at key parish events.

    This position is expected to average 20–25 hours per week, with flexibility throughout the year based on church seasons and program needs.

    Required Weekly/Monthly Presence

    • Sunday mornings - Onsite by 9:00 AM
    • Supporting children’s and youth formation
    • Participating in worship
    • Building relationships with families
    • Youth Fellowship (1st & 3rd Sundays): 12:30–2:00 PM
    • Tuesday Morning Staff Meetings
    • Regular communication and planning time during the week
    • Direct and convene Monthly Children’s and Youth Formation (CYF) Committee Meetings via Zoom
    • Seasonal & Occasional Commitments
    • Christmas Pageant
    • Holy Week & Easter programming
    • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
    • Parish Weekend
    • Occasional Saturday youth events or outings
    • Annual Vestry–Staff Retreat

    Key Responsibilities

    Sunday & Program Leadership

    • Help lead Youth Formation (2nd & 4th Sundays)
    • Support or help lead Godly Play (K–5) on 1st & 3rd Sundays
    • Ensure children and youth are meaningfully integrated into worship and parish life
    • Provide consistent, trusted adult presence so young people have a spiritual mentor beyond their parents

    Curriculum & Formation

    • Select, organize, and implement age-appropriate formation curricula
    • Support lay teachers with lesson planning, supplies, and preparation
    • Adapt programming to reflect the liturgical calendar and parish priorities

    Youth & Family Ministry

    • Build pastoral, supportive relationships with children, youth, and families
    • Lead youth fellowship gatherings and help plan retreats, service opportunities, and outings
    • Encourage youth participation in diocesan offerings such as:

    Volunteer & Community Leadership

    • Recruit, train, and support lay volunteers and teachers
    • Coordinate nursery care in collaboration with staff
    • Communicate regularly with families about schedules, events, and milestones
    • Help families feel welcomed, known, and connected

    Parish Life & Outreach

    • Organize seasonal events (Pageant, VBS, Easter activities, Parish Weekend)
    • Develop ways to welcome new families and share the Gospel beyond the church walls
    • Foster intergenerational connections in worship, service, and fellowship
    • Other special projects and activities as deemed necessary

    Qualifications

    • 3–5 years of experience in children’s, youth, or family ministry (Episcopal Church experience strongly preferred)
    • Experience teaching or supporting Godly Play (certification preferred)
    • Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills
    • Ability to lead with warmth, structure, and follow-through

  • Organist and Choirmaster

    St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, an active and inclusive parish in northeast Atlanta, seeks an organist/choirmaster. 


    The parish is known for its excellent Rosales organ (two-manual tracker, 38 ranks, Opus 29), superb acoustics, skilled choirs and collaboration with other musical groups in the metro area. St. Bartholomew’s is also known for its 72-year history of effective advocacy and social justice.


    Qualifications

    Candidate must have degree(s) in organ, sacred music, or choral conducting (or CAGO/ChM).

    Robust organ skills, knowledge of Episcopal music and liturgy, and substantial experience

    conducting accomplished choirs are required for the position.


    Responsibilities

    The Organist/Choirmaster (OCM) administers the music program, serves as organist for all worship services and special observances, rehearses and directs two adult choirs, and coordinates liturgical plans with clergy.

    Additionally, the OCM develops publicity materials for special services and concerts, oversees

    care of the organ and other instruments, and collaborates with the Music Committee. The OCM

    manages music libraries and selects appropriate new anthems and psalms. He/she works

    continuously to build the choirs’ skills.


    Interpersonal Skills

    The OCM will encourage prospective singers to join the choir and work effectively with all ages.

    Experience recruiting and building a treble choir using RSCM Curriculum is also desirable. The

    OCM will consult with families for weddings and memorial services, will audition and set

    expectations for any paid musicians, build collegial relationships with other music organizations

    that use church space, and ensure that pastoral care for the music ministry is provided as needed.


    Benefits

    Compensation for the 30 hours-per-week position is $50,000 plus benefits, continuing education, and vacation time (4 weeks/5 Sundays).
